Solar Power Report 2025
In the year 2025 we produced about 13.8 MWh ourselves. From that we directly used 2.5 MWh ourselves. At 32 Cent/kWh with our clean energy contract in Germany that saved 811€. We loaded 2.7 MWh to the battery and returned 2.5 MWh back saving another 796€. The difference is the power used by the system itself and some power lost as heat. We sold about 8.5 MWh to the power grid and purchased 846 kWh. In total we used 38% ourselves and covered 86% of our power needs ourselves.
Another key thing for us is the selling of power to our business. Yes, if you have a tenant, you can sell them power mixed from grid and solar at a fixed rate via the utility statements. Laws vary from country to country, so please check for your location. This requires an extra meter to count the office power. We sold more power to the office than we purchased, which basically means our power is completely paid for by the business as an expense.Instead of simply buying power from the grid all year for about 1760€ (5500 kWh), we only bought 846 kWh for 270€. The saving as well as the money from the tenant goes against the initial investment in the solar panels.
If you don't have photovoltaic panels (or solar heating panels), please consider adding them. It's basically free energy after paying the initial investment. And depending on what you pay for the installation, it may pay off within a couple of years. Especially if you have tenants or a business to buy power, this may be a great investment into your own building.
We got the question how much the heating costed. We have a heat pump which used 2411 kWh for the whole year. 1807 kWh purchased for 18 cent/kWh and 604 kWh came from the solar power, which would have been sold for 7 cent/kWh otherwise. And the base fee of 138,62€ per year for the meter. Total is 506€ so about 42€/month for the whole house. And part of this gets billed to the tenant.
