I quit Duolingo

My streak in DuoLingo was 1541 days with 84 weeks in the top league. I did the tournament and won it twice. I earned a ton of badges including finishing first in the diamond league.

But the last months it felt like a pain. The call every morning and evening to get the early bird and night owl bonuses, the constant pressure to make training, lections and the matching game. Just to get a few thousand points each week and stay in the top league.

And then we have the endless repeats. Some day I did repeat training and Duolingo showed me the same lesson again and again. I could click blindly. Even as my pool of finished lessons must have thousands of lessons, their algorithm couldn’t handle it.

On the end it feels good to quit this habit. I learned a lot in French and a little bit in Spanish and Italian as preparation for trips. It is not bad but after over 4 years it repeats.

As I write this the 5 streak freezes I collected are used automatically and my streak is broken. Good bye Duolingo!
